The new agent-plugin standard defines a shared folder structure that can work across several coding agents. Its portable core consists of a plugin manifest, one or more skills and an MCP configuration, allowing a developer to bundle instructions and service connections into one reusable package.
The video demonstrates a migration tool that converts an existing Anthropic knowledge-work plugin into the shared format. The resulting package can be installed in Codex and exposes its legal skills inside another project, showing how a plugin can carry multiple capabilities and service connections together.
Portability remains incomplete. Client-specific commands and hooks live outside the common core, while local installation can still require a marketplace file or other agent-specific setup. The specification standardizes package contents, but it does not solve distribution or loading across every client.
The AI Automators concludes that adoption will determine whether the format lasts. A shared standard could reduce duplicated agent instructions and make it easier to move capabilities between tools, but competing formats may persist if major vendors do not participate.
