What is a coding model?

Definition

Coding models learn relationships among programming languages, natural-language instructions and software examples. They can suggest implementations, explain existing code, translate between languages and help investigate errors when supplied with relevant context.

Generated code still needs appropriate verification. A model can produce plausible programs that fail on unusual inputs, use unsupported dependencies or introduce security defects; demonstrations of a difficult task do not establish general reliability.

ELI5

A coding model is a software assistant that has learned patterns from computer programs. You describe what you want, and it suggests code that might do the job.

For example, someone can ask it to build a small expense calculator. The person still needs to check the totals and try unexpected inputs before relying on it.

Is a coding model the same as a coding agent?

No. A coding model supplies predictions or generated code; an agent adds a workflow, tools and decisions about actions.

Does working code prove that it is safe?

No. A successful example can miss security problems, unusual inputs and defects that appear only in real use.
