An inpainting workflow uses a mask to identify the area to change. The generation process combines the selected region, surrounding visual context and any supported conditioning to produce a replacement that should fit the image.
A mask identifies where editing occurs but does not by itself provide reliable semantic control. Results depend on model support, encoding, generation settings and how well boundaries, objects and intended changes are preserved.
ELI5
Inpainting means asking a system to replace part of a picture rather than make an entirely new one. A mask marks the area that can change.
For example, you can mark an empty patch of a scene and ask for a plant there. The result still needs checking to see whether it fits the surroundings and leaves other details intact.
Is inpainting always natural-language editing?
No. It can be a conventional masked regeneration process without reliable understanding of an editing instruction.
Does the mask guarantee that surrounding details stay perfect?
No. The full workflow and resulting image still need verification for unintended changes.
