ProRes 4444 is used in editing, motion graphics and visual-effects workflows where quality and transparency matter more than small delivery files. The 4:4:4 color sampling preserves detailed color information, and compatible variants can carry alpha.
The codec produces relatively large files and is mainly intended for production and interchange rather than ordinary website delivery. The export and receiving application must both interpret the alpha channel correctly.

ProRes 4444 is a professional video format choice that keeps high image quality and can include transparency. It is useful when an animated overlay will be edited or composited into another production.
For example, a transparent lower third can be exported as ProRes 4444 and placed over footage in an editor with its soft edges intact. The file is much larger than a typical web video, so another format may be better for website delivery.
