Bijan Bowen tests Qwen 3.8 Max Preview across browser interfaces, games, spatial reasoning, hardware design and a complex historical visualization. The release is notable because Alibaba plans to make the large Qwen Max model available with open weights.
The strongest results are visually ambitious. A browser operating system is attractive and functional, and a first-person game contains several surprisingly polished elements. Other tasks expose serious gaps, including weak physics, incoherent spatial relationships and incomplete hardware work.
Bijan Bowen treats the model as a promising preview rather than a finished verdict. Its scale and open-weight direction could matter greatly, but the uneven hands-on results show that impressive visual first impressions do not yet translate into dependable performance across complex technical tasks.
