The release attracted attention because its operator was undisclosed and early coding reports suggested performance near or above current frontier systems.
The strongest identification clues point toward Z.ai's GLM family. Reported tokenizer behavior, community analysis, prediction-market expectations and Z.ai's earlier anonymous Pony Alpha test all support the view that OX Alpha is a GLM 5.3 Flash checkpoint rather than a model from a new lab.
Benchmark evidence is mixed. Some coding tests reported exceptional results, while later private and independent evaluations placed the model closer to GPT-5.6 Soul or GPT-5.5. TheAIGRID therefore treats the most dramatic performance claims cautiously and separates them from harder evidence about the model's likely origin.
The video also considers why so much inference is free and whether the release could involve continual learning.
