Protein binders recognize features on a target protein and form a physical interaction with it. They can be antibodies, antibody fragments, peptides, small designed proteins, or other molecular formats, and may be used to detect a target, block an interaction, deliver a payload, or help researchers study biological function.
A proposed binder must be tested for more than a visually plausible fit. Important properties include binding strength, selectivity against unwanted targets, stability, producibility, and behavior in the relevant biological conditions. A mini-binder is a compact designed protein intended to provide binding function in a smaller structure.
